Following several requests for clarity on the society grading process, please see below from the society grading officer:
There will be two Grading Meetings a Season; in the 2024-25 Season they are on 3rd December and the 29th April. In exceptional circumstances a referee could be regraded outside of these dates. The Referee Development and Grading Officer will circulate a list of those whom he considers worthy of upgrading to the members of the Grading Committee.
All Grading Committee members should have read all the reports on a referee before an objection to the promotion can be put forward.
If a member of the Grading Committee feels a referee not listed should be considered for promotion they needs to notify the Grading Officer well in advance of the Grading Meeting.
Before promotion can be considered the following requirements should be fulfilled:
- A minimum of 2+ games at the next level at least 1 having MOD reports at the target level (either in-county or exchange).
- MOD reports should have nothing below Satisfactory (S) and the majority of the descriptors being Excellent (E), Very Good (VG) or Good (G).
To progress above Level 8 the referee would be expected to have covered at least one L7 exchange match and the same requirement would be expected for a Level 7 aiming for Level 6.
All of the above requirements can be adjusted in exceptional circumstances by the Grading Officer.
The Grading Officer should be responsible for informing all referees of their upgrades and be able to justify the upgrading.
