Alan (Al) stopped playing rugby and began refereeing in 2022.
Since taking up the whistle he has refereed all levels of the community game from Schools Rugby to Adult competition (both men’s and women’s). As well as enjoying his time in the middle, Al likes working in a Team of 3 supporting fellow officials and providing a quality experience to the clubs involved.
Having played the game for a significant period Al likes to remember that players wait all week for their weekend run-out, he hopes that this leads to him officiating flowing rugby, played in the right spirit and that is enjoyable all-round.
Al is the Vice-Chairman of Dorset and Wiltshire Referee’s Society, he also referees with the Army Rugby Union Referee’s Society to broaden his experience and to get him out of the office.
