Charles started refereeing in Norway in 2005, whilst on a NATO appointment (and still playing). After ARing for Norway in a couple of international matches, upwards progress has been measured, but he is now refereeing, and keeping up with play, at Level 7. Due to being retired after a full military career he has refereed 88 matches in both the past two seasons (22-23 & 23-24) for Dorset & Wilts, Hampshire and the Army, from Under 13 upwards (whilst taking off 6 weeks mid-season to continue cross country ski racing instruction).
Happiest in a fast-flowing open match covering 6+ km.
He has taken up the reins of Society Discipline Secretary, in spite of only issuing six Red Cards in the past 3 seasons.
