Having finally admitted that he was too old to keep playing, but wanting to stay involved in rugby, the poacher decided to turn gamekeeper and Damien started to referee with Dorset & Wilts in 2023.
Very much a social player in his heyday, he continues to enjoy the social aspect of rugby, whether it’s some friendly banter on the pitch or a beer with the teams after the game.
A keen fan of the game (Bath & England), he is also an age-grade coach for his son’s team (u14s), occasionally plays, and is also a member of the Army Rugby Union Referee Society.
