Stew took up refereeing in Dorset and Wilts in 2001, reaching his current active grading of Level 6 in 2008, After a decidedly average playing career in the West Midlands, Dorset and for various Royal Naval units.
Stew has been fortunate to have officiated multiple times at almost every Dorset and Wilts Club (still one or two to tick off!), many out of county exchanges, and at Twickenham, The Stoop, Kingsholm, and a variety of representative matches and cup finals including county, armed forces inter services and invitational fixtures. He was Chairman of the Royal Navy Referees’ Society for 6 seasons, the Dorset and Wilts Training Officer for 5 seasons and to date has refereed over 650 matches, the majority at Level 6. He is still learning 🙂
